1987 Custom C051 Cutter

This 1987 Cutter is a true custom masterpiece, hand-built by John Cutter himself when his frame-building journey was still in its early days at Spirit Cycle Works in San Luis Obispo. As frame number C051, it’s the 51st bike in Cutter’s lineup and was tailored specifically for Michael Wright, who requested an upright riding position—a unique touch that speaks to the level of personalization each Cutter frame embodies.

This turquoise beauty features top-mounted down tube shifters, an old-school favorite before Shimano's STI shifters took over, along with internal cable routing on the top tube, an aerodynamic rear brake bridge, and the signature fastback seat stays with an integrated seat post binder.

The original decals add to the charm, being part of a limited graphic run, and even the Silca frame pump matches the striking turquoise paint—a color typically reserved for Cutter’s sponsored race frames. With most original components still intact, though a few swapped out over years of hard riding, this bike isn’t just a collector's piece—it’s a well-loved road warrior that’s powered through countless century rides and grueling Markleeville Death Rides.
